Assisi to Venice

Hi - We are going to Italy in February. Can anyone advise if it is possible to travel by train from Assisi to Venice, and if so, how long does that trip take? We will be in Rome, and are traveling to Venice, but have one day to stop in between, see the sights, and travel to Venice the next day. We will have already been to Florence & Siena, but really want to see Assisi as well. Or would a day trip from Rome be a better choice? I am having a hard time trying to figure out the train schedules to see if the Assisi to Venice route is even possible. Thank you,
Terri

Yes, it is possible. It takes about 5 hours with a minimum of 1 train change (in Florence) A day trip to Venice from Rome is not advisable. It's about 4 hours by fast train, each way. It is however more feasible from Florence. Florence to Venice one way is about 2 hours (via high speed train). For train schedules got to Trenitalia.com DA (FROM): enter departure city A (TO): enter destination city SELECT DATE
SELECT TIME (24 HR CLOCK) You'll have all the possibilities displayed in nanoseconds

I think Terri meant a day trip to Assisi, not Venice. That is possible. About 2 hours each way.

Terri, it's about 2hrs by train from Rome to Assisi with a train change most likely at Foligno. From Assisi to Venice, it's a 5.0hr journey by train with a train change in Florence. On some runs, there's a second train change in Terontola-Cortona. If you are trying to squeeze in a 1-day visit to Assisi on your journey from Rome to Venice, it will indeed be a tight squeeze. However, should this be your choice, please note that the hills in Assisi are a bit steep. When you arrive at the train station, go next door to the little shop and buy a ticket on the Line C bus. Take the bus to the top of the hilltown and walk down. The Basilica St.Francesco d' Assisi would be your last stop. Then, take the bus back down to the train station. The nicer restaurants are closed 4-7pm.

Thanks for the replies - I'm sorry if I wasn't clear. I did mean that we are thinking about going from Rome, stopping in Assisi (overnight...possibly even 2 nights depending on how much time we spend in Rome), and then going from there to Venice. Sounds like it's doable, but there wouldn't be a lot of time in Assisi, so we'll take that into consideration.

That sounds quiet do-able. And an overnight or even 2 nights in Assisi will give you some time to enjoy. Last visit, I stayed a week and really enjoyed wanderful, but a night or two will give you a good feeling. Also, I found it to be a pretty train ride, going from Rome to Florence by way of a stop in Assisi. Enjoy
