I have two questions for this trip. The first is what clothes should I plan for. I'm going for the Canonization of Kateri Tekakwitha on October 21st. I'm planning on at least 1 lightweight broomstick skirt, a pair of capris, a pair of black or dark indigo jeans, 4-5 tops, a pair of sandals and a pair of sneakers, a silky scarf to dress up my skirt & top, and a fleece. We are going on an organized pilgrimage tour with the 1st night spent in Assisi and the rest of the time in Rome. I'm trying to pack light. My second question is about beverages in Italy. I don't drink wine or carbonated beverages. When I was in Scotland last year we were able to get Juice2O, a bottled juice and water beverage that was great. Will I find a similar beverage in Italy? I'd appreciate any advice. Pam
You wardrobe plan is fine, except I'd drop the fleece and add a lightweight, hooded rainjacket or coat. October mornings can be cold in the hilltowns of Umbria, and you never know where a rain shower or storm will crop up. You absolutely don't need more than 1 skirt, 2 pants. There is an abundance of juice products here. I don't know about your specific beverage, but you won't go thirsty. At restaurants, buying bottles of water (liter size) to share at a meal is the usual practice, even if you have wine or juice.
I am the queen of packing light (3 months with a 21-inch carryon and a daypack). Your list sounds pretty good. Layering is key, because in the hills in mid-October it could be cool and/or rainy and it could change from one hour to the next. There are lots of teas and juices available in Italy, I'm sure you'll find something similar to what you described. There are also yogurt drinks and, of course, many kinds of coffee beverages.
