Assisi on October 4th

I will be in Assisi on October 4th. Will there be special "festtivities" in honor of St. Francis(his feast day)?

Hi Diane. I don't know if there will be any festivities that day but I just wanted to share with you that my husband and I were in Assisi for one day/overnight in June and it is spectacular! Will you have time to wander through the charming village? We took Rick's advise and rode the bus to the very tiptop and then meandered our way down stopping along the way for breathtaking views of the valley and to visit sites or to browse the shops. The Basilica of San Francesco is also a wonderful, peaceful experience if visited mid to late afternoon after all the bus tours have raced off to another destination. We stayed at Hotel Berti which is perfectly located just inside the Gate of San Pietro. It was reasonably priced at 80 euros and has a sweet courtyard for enjoying a cappucino.

Linda,

My husband & I are arriving in Assisi on Oct. 4th and are staying in Hotel Berti. Is this hotel easy to find? We will be arriving by bus from Siena.
Thanks!

Hi Martha: We arrived by train from Rome in the "town" of Assisi which is in the valley below the old medieval village that spills down the hillside - about two miles or so away. From town, we took a cab (should have waited for the orange bus - much cheaper) into the village. Hotel Berti is at the low point of the hillside right inside the San Pietro gate. The orange bus has a stop which drops you right there - just cross the street, go through the big arch/gate, Hotel Berti is immediately on the left. Beautiful courtyard. Franco will brew up cappuccino's for you and tell you about his restaurant, De Cecco, which is one block away (and delicious!) and give you a map.

If you're walkers, take the bus all the way up to Piazza Matteoti and wander all the way back down through the village. I took some of the our most beautiful photographs in Assisi. Go to the Basilica of San Francesco later in the day to avoid the crushing crowds.

Enjoy! Assisi is enchanting.

Linda,

Thanks for the detailed information! I think we will find it without any problems. I spent one night in Assisi while on a group tour and my husband is eager to visit there. I look forward to having a more leisurely visit this time.
