My sister and I will be traveling in the Umbria region this spring by car and we are considering staying in the heart of Assisi for a night. I would appreciate hotel recommendations in the town. We would very much like to stay in a "nice" place but not too over the top expensive.

Hotel Sole! Family run. In between Santa Chiara and Piazza Comune. Comfortable, affordable, convenient. Amazing view from the deck.
Istituto Beata Angelina - a ‘monastery stay’ across the open field from the Basilica. Wow, what a view ! great price. get a room on the side that faces the church. I don’t know about parking.

Hotel Ideale. We have stayed there twice and would stay there again. It has a lovely outdoor area with great view of the town. It is family owned and they have parking on site.
