Assisi - Hotel Belvedere - Trouble w making reservations / contacting hotel

Hi Folks,
Have been reading the forum for yrs. Finally require some assistance. My wife & I are doing a V-F-R RS Tour 5/1/15. We are planning to go to Assisi on 5/10 - 511 and have been attempting to reach the Hotel Belvedere off / on for the past coupe of weeks. No one answers the phone or e-mail. Could they be on vacation, closed for the season, out of business. Any suggestions from the group????
Thanks,
Gene

I would guess they are not checking emails yet, give it a few more days (try after January 6).

Hi Gene, Italy is chock full of wonderful places to visit, certainly Assisi is one of them and May is terrific time to be there. While the Belvedere may hold some rooms back from Booking.com, that popular reservations site shows no rooms available at the hotel for your indicated dates. So, while certainly you should keep trying with the Belvedere after the holiday, you ought to deveop a list of next choices. There are many nice small hotels and B & Bs in Assisi, many of them are listed and reviewed with Booking.com or other similar sites, and often you can book with free cancellation up to just before your arrival. I know it's tempting to try to fit in as many stops as time allows, but if your dates of May 10-11 mean you are planning just a 1-night stop, my personal experience, and that of many others on this forum, is to try to avoid 1-night stops, as they cause you to lose an inordinate amount of time checking in and out and traveling, and don't allow you to enjoy a full day in a town. There is a lot to see in Assisi, things are quite spread out for a small town, and just wandering through the ancient stone town of Assisi is wonderful.

If you are unable to book that hotel I can recommend Hotel Umbra. It is a very nice small hotel and they serve a great breakfast and also dinner. It has been five years or so since we stayed there but would definitely stay there again. Our room overlooked the convent garden. The convent may have rooms to rent also.

Some of Rick Steves' Tours use Hotel Umbra, and our My Way groups received a warm welcome there this year. It's also easy to find by following signs to the Temple of Minerva.

Our experience with email and small hotels is that they generally only respond when vacancies are available. If full, they tend to be slow in responding. Something I wonder if they are waiting for a cancellation before responding. Second, if not answering phone, then are closed.
