We will be staying in Amalfi for 2 weeks in Sept. Can someone tell me how far it is to Assis? Is there a train that we could take? Also Verona. Thank you

Google maps can answer those questions (use the "directions" feature). There are trains in Verona and Assisi. The station closest to Amalfi is Salerno.
Use www.trenitalia.com to find train schedule options. It's also in English.

Assisi and Verona are too far from Amalfi to do as day trips. You would need to overnight. Assisi is 5-6 hours of train travel each way and Verona is 6.5-7.5 hours each way. Add to that your time to get from Amalfi to Salerno.
