Assisi dining?

Does anyone have recommendations for good, inexpensive places to eat lunch and dinner in Assisi? Thanks very much.

From the northeast corner of the main square in the center of the town, three streets branch out; one to the north and two kind of to the east. Go a block on any of the three and you'll find what you want.

The artery going toward the basillica has a bunch of places, but they were higher and didn't look as good.

Lonnie, I enjoyed a wonderfully delicious traditional Umbrian meal at Trattoria Pallotta. It is right off the Piazza del Comune.

The small pizzeria in piazza S. Rufino has great crispy pizza. La Lanterna off v. S. Rufino is reasonable. Pozza Romano on lower street running east from S. Chiara has pizza & inexpensive meals.

RS only assesses a few restaurants in Assisi, 6 places are listed in his book (Ristorante Medioevo, La Pallotta, Tratorria da Erminio, Locanda del Podesta, Ristorante Metastasio, & Caffe Duomo). SO I will be paying attention to this post as well as Lonnie, especially if other non RS restaurants are listed.

Just be advised that most of the nicer restaurants in Assisi close from 4-7pm. We were looking forward to a nice dinner before returning to Florence and missed out because of the closures. The restaurant we were looking at is just to the left of the fountain in the main square as you are going up the hill. Still, you will love Assisi. Great shops, great gelato and just beautiful.

We very much enjoyed the RS recommendation, Trattoria de Erminio. We were able to sit outside although inside is delightful. It is located in a shady, quiet corner, which we appreciated after the hot streets of Assisi.

Another vote for La Pallotta. Ate there twice during my last stay in Assisi and enjoyed 2 great meals.

Another vote here for La Pallotta. Had the mixed grilled meat which included the best sausages I've had before or since.

Also, if you can get a bit out of town, I'd recommend La Stalla. Had a very memorable meal there, also.

We loved La Lanterna! It is a nice, small restaurant with good dining options, has a wonderful patio, and it is fairly cheap.

Definitely try Caffe Il Duomo across from the Cathedral of San Rufino (Piazza San Rufino). Lovely pastries, gelato, sandwiches & other menu items. It's a bar where you can get your morning coffee and sit outside with a nice view. It shares a kitchen with Il Duomo, the restaurant a few doors uphill. They serve great meals at reasonable prices and also have a tourist menu (3 courses) so you don't have to think too much :) They also serve pizza. I was happy with both of these places which I assume are owned by the same nice folks.
