Assisi @ Christmas?

Hello,

I will be in Rome over Christmas this year, however considering staying in Assisi from 12/23-12/26. Are the main tourist sites open during Christmas Eve & Day? I am thinking of Temple of Minerva/museums./convent, etc and of course the main cathedrals as well. If most of the town is shut down, I am thinking of changing my plans and staying in Rome over these dates instead and going to Assisi after the 26th.

Thanks!
Loree

Things may have changed, but 20 years ago an expatriate friend living in Italy told me that Christmas is celebrated as a very quiet family holiday -- in contrast to Easter, when families are more likely to eat dinner in a restaurant or invite other friends to their homes. I'm guessing you'll find more things open in Rome than in a small, more traditional town like Assisi.
