Assisi arrival

We're coming into Assisi by train from Rome. I've been told to take bus line C, to the piazza Unita' d'Italia. But then it's a walk 3 blocks up , with suitcases to the hotel. Is that a tough walk? Do the busses go further into the town? Is it better to take a taxi from the train station?

This is our first trip, I look to your experience.

thanks

You can view the walking route from the piazza by using the street view feature on Google maps to see if it's something you'd want to tackle on foot to save a few Euros.

For my wife and I the convenience of door to door service via taxi from the train station would be the preferred way to go ... especially if we're horsing luggage around. Not only may you be dealing with an uphill slog to your hotel, but many (if not most) of the side streets are quite narrow with cobblestone sidewalks which can make maneuvering with rolling luggage a bit challenging.

We took a taxi. Save yourself the hassle and do the same. It’s not expensive.

There are multiple stops in Assisi, so ask your hotel if there is one that is uphill from the hotel but not to far a walk. The hills in Assisi are pretty steep so it would be easier to walk downhill even if you have to walk a little farther. The place we stayed offered to arrange for a taxi when we arrived, and we went for it. It was ideal, but also a lot more expensive than the bus.

If you know where your hotel is located you can take line C to the end of the route (Piazza Matteotti) then walk down into town passing by San Rufino then continuing down into the Piazza Commune.
