Assasi or Abbazia di Sant' Antimo

If you had to choose one which would it be. I know both are very different, but what would your pick be.

I'm assuming (possibly incorrectly) that you mean Assisi so forgive me if this answer is not correct.

I would certainly choose Assisi. It's a charming town with the tomb of St Francis and the incredible Giotto and Cimabue frescos. The Abby of Sant Antimo was lovely and worth a visit but not in the same class as Assisi.

Ditto here, Assisi is very beautiful, but then so is just about everywhere in Italy!

Assisi: relics of Francis and Clare, hotels, restaurants, a classic medieval city on the top of a hill, lots of other stuff to see and do, with a major cathedral (upper and lower chapels) another basilica in town, and another near the train station, plus multiple other churches.
Filled with tourists during the day, quiet, serene and relatively peaceful when the hordes leave.

S'Antimo: a beautiful, serene Romanesque chapel pretty much in the middle of nowhere, peaceful, quiet- less than 10 miles from Montalcino, home of Brunello, with multiple hotels, restaurants, enotecas.

Both are beautiful. Both are inspiring. You can do Assisi by bus or train. You can get to Montalcino by bus (probably 4-6 a day), and 4 buses a day will get you about 1/2 mile from S'Antimo-

Bang for the buck: Assisi

Serenity, calm, peace: S'Antimo.

Keep in mind that several of the wine tour bussed make stops at the Abbey. We we're there along with several tour busses and some individual tourists. It was very lovely but not that serene. For the ultimate in serene try the 7am Mass in the Crypt of St Francis in Assisi which was the highlight of our 2006 trip.

Apologies if I'm starting a new thread (I'm a newbie) but does anyone have information on hostels or B&Bs in Assisi? Thanks.
