Asciano?

My husband and I are looking at a b&B just outside of Asciano. thoughts on this location? We plan on staying for roughly a week and using it as a jumping off point for our Tuscan vacation. We will have a rental car!!

With so many other wonderful places to stay, I would never choose Asciano--it's just a bit in "no man's land" and you have to drive quite a distance before getting to places you are likely to want to visit. Asciano the town is not particularly a "gem" as compared to many other villages. It is definitely off the beaten track, however, so if that is a major appeal, .... well then, ok, maybe.

Areas that would be more appealing to me for a base location as well as many things to do in the immediate area (within 15-20 min radius, say): Pienza, San Quirico d'Orcia, Montepulciano. I love the Val d'Orcia more than I can describe in words.

Haven't been to Asciano but we love Montepulciano, and San Quirico d'Orcia, visited only on a day trip, made us long to return to for a longer stay. We liked Pienza as well, but San Quirico seemed to be less touristed.

On the plus side the views of the Crete Senesi countryside are beautiful.
It is very close to Siena, and not far from the Val D'Orcia, Florence, etc...
There is not much around though in the immediate area, it feels more remote than the Val D'Orcia.

Personally if scenic countryside is goal number one I would choose the Val D'Orcia but could see some choosing Asciano for proximity to Siena or even as a logistically better base for the region.
The Baccoleno B&B in Asciano is on an amazing piece of land especially at sunset!

I would rather stay in Pienza, Montepulciano or a B&B in the countryside between Pienza - San Quirico though if it were me.
