Hi All, Any ideas what all is closed in Rome on Ascension day? I know the Vatican museum is. Anything else? Thanks!
I know that the Borghese Gallery is open, because I reserved a ticket for that morning. Unsure of anything being closed though besides the Vatican.
Thanks, Colleen! I'm thinking some of the churches may be.. don't know.
Thanks for the good info! :)
Are you aware of any special events that may be at the Vatican on Ascension Day (public mass, etc.)
Hi Bruce, there is a Papal Audience the day before, and I read that Florence does up Ascension Day.
But I have not heard that the Vatican does anything special besides close the museum. I wouldn't doubt if there is a mass though. Don't know if they Pope himself would be involved.
Good suggestion. Chris
Chris - Thanks for the heads-up on Florence. I'll be there on Ascension Day, so I'll make sure to ask my hotel about the day's events.
Frank - apparently, there's some kind of big processional in Florence on Thursday, Ascension Day. Rick/Frommer's and other places mention it, but I wasn't able to find much info on it.
Then on that following Sunday is the big, "Festival of the Crickets" where all the kids get crickets and try to keep them alive as long as they can. Some kind of big shindig down at the park to go along with it.
We may pop up there ourselves if lot's of Rome is closed. But I think most things are open. :)
