AS Roma Soccer Tickets from Viagogo

Wondering if anyone has purchased AS Roma tickets through Viagogo. My daughter has purchased 2 for the game on April 30th. Everything seems fine except that about a week ago she received a request for a photo copy of the attendees passports within 24 hours or the order would be cancelled. We were reluctant to do that and didn't. Her tickets still show as valid and that they will be available at least 72 hours before the event. No other emails have been received. The link in the email has since been deactivated.

I have seen that id is required with your ticket at the game. She provided names and country of origin when she purchased (no request for passport information was asked for at that time.)

Has anyone done this successfully? Did you encounter issues? Will she be ok with no passport info given?

Their website says to use email to contact them but there is no email address available. I tried their phone number but they ask for order id and will not talk to you unless it is 3 days or less before the event. I have also tried IMing them on their facebook page. No response.

Hi Kathy
I have purchased many tickets from viagogo and never had to send my passport info beforehand, make sure to bring your passport to the game thought. Never had any issue with viagogo either, except that one time my tickets were not delivered at the expected time, so I had to phone. After the long Italian message in the beginning I think I pressed 0, and when someone answered I asked if they spoked English and they did. We resolved the problem over the phone and I got my tickets.
Try calling again.
Hope this helps a bit!

Thanks so much, Martine! I appreciate your experience. I will try calling again but I am feeling better about them.

I am in the same boat. The link they sent for me to follow in order to upload my ID info is not a valid URL and so I am left wondering if they will cancel my ticket order. I have tried to contact them via email and on twitter but the twitter account said someone would call tomorrow, which is of course after the 24 hour limit they created. I would love to have the phone number you used.

Best of luck, see you at the match

A passport is a valid id in foreign countries, but for the holder it is a travel document. I don't understand why people, are so reluctant to give their passport info when asked.

I work with international travelers and by law, w need people's information to do invoices, and have needed passport number and expiration dates to buy tickets, especially for football.

Probable a person interested in robbing you will not do it by asking your passport number, absolutely useless for anything other than travel, which cannot be done with just the number.

Hi,

i encountered the exact issue with Viagogo.
Recieved a mail saying:
"The tickets you bought require a copy of a valid ID for every ticket holder.
Please click here within 24 hours to send each identification, otherwise your order will be cancelled."

Is that a legit request ?
Anyone can tell me what's that ?

Thanks all

The phone number that I called is 1-866-961-3071 but you will not be able to get through until 72 hours before your ticketed event.

In answer to the question of why we do not want to photocopy our passports, in the US, we are told not to do so and if we do, keep it in a trusted location as it can be used for identity fraud. There are mixed thoughts on this even within the US but in general providing a photocopy of a passport is not recommended. We can supply passport numbers, expiration date, etc. Just not a photocopy.

This does not seem to be as big of an issue with other countries.

Plus, why a photocopy of a picture id? Do they have the ability to see the photo at the event security? I don't think so.

Viagogo does not want you to call or email them. I'm sure they have very little actual staff. It is really annoying that their phone and website say to email them for help and then there is absolutely no help email address given (even tho they will respond within 24 hours if you email them!)

Today I am emailing email help email addresses by guessing what might actually work! I will let you all know if I find anything out. Please do the same for me.

I also bought Tickets for the game on April 30th. I had the exact same email from viagogo yesterday, and the link was broken from the start. I didn't submit anything and was unable to get an answer by replying to the email or by tweeting at them or DMing them on twitter. I have no idea what the status of my order is... still waiting for my etickets to become available.

UPDATE: An email arrived yesterday (1 week before date of event) saying the tickets were available for download. Just a reminder, an email was received about a month before the event that requested a photocopy of each person's passport or national id within 24 hours or the order would be cancelled. We did not do this.

The tickets have been downloaded and the names on them are the correct ones.

The price paid was about double the face value of the tickets. However, if we had waited to purchase through Listicket as the AS Roma site suggests, the ticket cost would have been roughly the same IF we had been able to get them which is doubtful. I did look at them when they became available.

Only open issue is whether or not there is any issue at all gaining admittance with these tickets at the event. I don't anticipate that but will update after the event date.

I did as much research as I could about using Viagogo and in particular using them to purchase soccer tickets in Italy. Since there seems to be a lot of confusion, I will attempt to document what I deduced from our experience.

Soccer tickets can be bought via Listicket (which is like Ticketmaster) or Viagogo (which is like Stubhub). Tickets will be made available on Viagogo earlier than on Listicket (and may cost more sometimes quite a bit more.) Again this is similar to the US. Reading through some of the complaints about Viagogo, most of them have to do with people not understanding what Viagogo actually is (place where they match up resellers with buyers) and that since they are buying third party if something happens with the event (it gets cancelled, etc.,) that information will go to the original purchaser.

Apparently all soccer tickets have the names and other identifying information on them with respect to the purchaser that can be checked versus a photo id at the event. Our tickets have the name, birthdate, and country printed on them. Sometimes there have been problems with these not matching when tickets have been purchased through Viagogo. We did not have this issue.

Dates, times, locations, etc. can be changed. If purchasing through Viagogo, you run this risk more than if buying from the venue direct (via Listicket in this case) because those tickets will be sold at a later date when the accurate information is available.

The reseller may not follow through with Viagogo. If this happens, Viagogo will try to supply you similar tickets but if none can be provided, they will refund your money. I read several documented cases where this happened and the refund was done in a timely manner. I also read cases where the substituted tickets were not considered to be at the same "level" by the purchaser. Again a risk you will be assuming.

Finally, the biggest frustration for me with Viagogo, is that there is absolutely no way to communicate with them (email, social media, phone) more than 72 hours prior to the date of the event. They "say" that you can email them and they will respond within 24 hours but the link does not exist.

CONCLUSION: Would I buy from Viagogo again? Yes, provided we have no problems with the etickets at the event, but you need to be very aware of the risks that you are assuming (we were) and realize that if a question arises (as it did with us regarding the post purchase request for passport/national id photocopy) you will not be able to contact them until 72 hours before your event.

Just be sure to bring your passport with you to the match. My experience with matches in Italy is they typically do match names and IDs. For me just flashing the cover of my US Passport was enough. They are concerned with rival fans not being stead together. Foreign passports get a pass on all this. The tickets I had didn't have my name on them.

Been to 2 Roma games and purchased tickets differently, both time I needed the copy of the passport and the same for Lazio tickets.

One Roma game I bought tickets day of at the Roma store in Piazza Colona and they made a copy of my passport a the time of purchase. The same with the official Lazio store south of Termini, they took my passport for copy. The 2nd Roma game I went to, I emailed the AS Roma ticket office. I purchased tickets for our group directly from them and I had to send them a copy of all 8 of the different passports for the tickets ahead time.

Viagogo is a aftermarket seller like our Stubhub but i have never used them. However since the AS Roma team needed my passport the viagogo site should be legit request.

When we purchased from the Roma team, both games the girls were given discounted tickets by the team. Like 3 euro.

Update following match. Daughter made it in. No problems. Passports were checked once. Bags were checked 3 times. One bit of advice. She said the stadium is very dirty. None of the locals would sit on the seats. They either brought something to sit on or sat on the backs. Fyi.
