Obviously I’ll be visiting all the museums and galleries i can and will also treat this opportunity as a residency for creating art, but i also want to meet people and if I’m lucky find new opportunities to support myself as a teacher or artist for a longer stay. I’m only just learning the basics of Italian. My trip is during the month of January, but could be longer.
What a great opportunity. What is your question?
Are you looking for "opportunities to support yourself" on this trip or for future trips?
You will need a work visa.
Hello davisartworks, and welcome to the forum!
As noted to work in Italy you need a work visa. Without a visa you are (assuming you're American) restricted to any 90 out of 180 rolling days and 180 a year total on your tourist visa.
If you do not have a return ticket booked when you enter the country you may face some hard questions about your plans and finances. Search for the recent thread with a lot of good information about these issues.
January will be a cheaper month but it may also probably a slower month for networking and trying to drum up future business.
How is your Italian? If you're limited to English this may limit who you can communicate with and how well you can discuss deeper artistic thoughts and ideas.
Just some thoughts since you didn't ask any specific questions,
