Hello -
I'll be purchasing and artecard for our upcoming visit to the Naples/Amalfi area. Can someone confirm that the artecard covers the Trenitalia trip between Salerno and Paestum? I find the card website very difficult to navigate, so thanks for the help in advance.
If (and only if) you purchase the "Tutta la Regione - 3 days" Artecard, rail and bus transportation to and from Paestum from Salerno (or Naples or elsewhere within the Campania Region) is also included. This is NOT true if you purchase the "Tutta la Regione - 7 days" Artecard, or the "Tutta la Regione - 365 days" Artecard. From Salerno to Paestum, you actually have the choice of taking a Trenitalia regionale train (approx. 35 minutes), which drops you 700 meters from the Temples, or one of the hourly (except on Sundays) CSTP buses-Line 34 (approx. 70 minutes), which drop you 300 meters away). The train is the preferred method, unless it's raining hard or you don't want to walk 10 minutes each way. I have taken both, and can report that the bus line is long and tedious compared to the quick train run. The bus is also subject to traffic jams. FYI, the CSTP bus-Line 34 departs from Piazza della Concordia, 250 meters from the Salerno train station. The bus stop (shown on Rick's map) is right on the main road going eastward. I suggest that you print out both train and bus schedules, then take whatever is more convenient. You can travel by train in one direction, and by CSTP bus in the other direction, if you wish. There are other bus operators from Salerno to Paestum, but only CSTP honors the Artecard (and the UNICO CAMPANIA bus tickets). If you choose to go by bus, make sure you take CSTP bus line 34 (or you'll need to purchase a ticket). Paestum is one of the glories of Italy and of the Ancient Greek World. Don't miss the museum, either!
