Arriving @ Milan- hotel for jet lag, train ticket to Florence

Hi there, I will be arriving in June to Milan at 2pm and plan to leave next day to Florence via train. Is it safe to stay in a hotel near Central Station? (for 100 euros or less). Would it be impractical to stay in other area? Do you recommend buying the train ticket before or is it ok to buy it the same day I'm traveling? Thank you so much for any help you can provide,

The area around the station is fine. We have stayed in a couple of hotels just across the plaza that were fine. Same day is fine. The airport shuttle will drop you on the SE corner of the station so walk to the front and buy your ticket then or the next day.

Hi Lichita - the train station area is fine. As you will be coming into the train station from the airport I would buy your ticket at that time, especially if you want first class. Stella

Hi Lichita,

Depending on your flight time another option to consider would be to go directly to Florence from Milan the day you arrive. Since you're already at the train station you can purchase your ticket when you arrive and be in Florence by early evening--it's a 3 hour train trip from Milan.

Sharon,

On high-speed EuroStar Italia trains it's only 1hr45min from Milano to Firenze. That's makes your suggestion to go on to Firenze even better.

Thanks Tim--excellent point! I like to travel by train to my first destination on the day I arrive. It's easy to relax on the train and not waste any valuable sight-seeing time the next day.

To help prevent Jet Lag, try to adjust to the time prior to departing, so it won't affect you so much.
