Arriving late at Venice Airport, recommend a hotel near there?

We'll be arriving into Venice airport at 10.45pm on a Saturday night - should we look for a hotel close to the airport for that night and travel to Venice itself the following day? We don't want to end up getting into the city too late, everything closed, hotel possibly in sleep-mode, and maybe transport late or not available. Thanks for any recommendations!

Transport in Venice is available at night, but you should check with your hotel about late arrival. Some budget hotels close down for the night.
I would go to the hotel in town directly if late check in is available.

We also have flown into Marco Polo airport arriving late after long flights. Look for a hotel in the area providing a 24 hour shuttle and near the train line. There are a few that meet those criteria and are not as expensive as right at the airport. You can grab one of the frequent morning trains to take you into Venice train station. Any late night transport into Venice or to hotels without shuttles will be very expensive. Try Best Western AirVenice Hotel. They had a very late shuttle when we stayed there a few years ago. Also a short walk to train stop, grocery store nearby and an attractive residential area.

We just had a similar issue, but couldn't find any 24-hour hotel shuttles (with vacancy.) If anyone has such hotel info, I'll file it away.

We stayed at the Marriott Courtyard about half a mile from Marco Polo airport, arriving around 11:30 pm, and used a taxi for the 3 minute ride. The Venice airport was empty and there were no lines getting through passport control. The taxis charge extra for the later pick-up, I think it was around $20, but we were tired and accepted that. The hotel shuttle only ran until about 11:30 pm. It didn't seem like the short distance was walkable.
Water taxis into Venice are VERY expensive. The vaporetto lines do not serve the airport, but the separate Alilaguna boat does, and runs every half hour.

The next morning, we used the #5 bus, immediately across the street, runs every 15 minutes, to get to Venice proper, which route took about 20 minutes. From the last bus stop, you simply cross the bridge [with steps] over the canal and to the vaporetto stop nearby.
Safe travels!
