We are arriving in Bari on New Year's Day, do you think there's an issue with this? We're renting an apartment so we'll need to get some necessities and food. I wasn't sure if restaurants and stores close on that day, any information or advise you can provide would be greatly apprecaited!

I would ask the landlord what might be open.
We were in Rome on New Years Day, staying in an apt and the only place we found open was a Halal market/ pizzeria which had some of the best pizza we ever have eaten. We walked and walked until we came across it. Maybe your landlord could do some shopping for you before you arrive and put it in the apt.
