Arrival in Venice

I wii be arriving in Venice solo this fall before joining a tour. I have not decided whether to take the train or fly to Venice but it seems as if arrival by train is less of a hassle as far as far as transportation to hotels. Any comments?
Thanks

At this point I am flexible. I can fly from CDG or Rome or I can take a train from Rome or Milan. Is arriving by train an easier arrival than coming from the airport? My trip is in September and I have my hotel reservation in Venice so I am now planning my transportation.
Thanks

The only question I have is: is it easier to get to Venice from the airport or from
the train station?

"is it easier to get to Venice from the airport or from the train station?" The Venice/Venezia Santa Lucia train station is in Venice, the airport is not in the city.

Thanks Kent! That was the impression I got from the RS Guide but just wanted to confirm it. I will probably fly to Rome
and take the train.

Venice's train station is on the Grand Canal so there is a two minute walk to the vaporetto assuming that your hotel is not walkable from the train. Marco Polo is about 6 to 10 miles from the train station. Buses connect via freeway the airport to the garage that is a short walk to a vaporetto. The ferry makes a few stops in Venice so if your hotel is near one of those early stops and if your hotel is a long vaporetto ride from the train then the airport ferry could be an advantage for you. So I suggest that you use a map to determine how you would get to the hotel from each of those delivery systems.

No, no, no. Getting from Marco Polo airport into Venice is as easy as walking out the front door of the terminal and getting on a bus. It will take you to Venice in about 20 minutes. Infinitely easier than flying into Rome FCO or Ciampino and then getting to Termini to take a train to Venice or flying into Milan Malpensa then getting to Milano Centrale to get the train to Venice. It is probably as easy or easier to get from VCE to Venice than from DFW to Arlington.

If you haven't made flight reservations it's easy enough to fly to Venice Airport (VCE) then you can take the Alilaguna boat right to Venice for about 12 euros when purchase in advance.

My first hotel (prior to tour hotel) is near St . Mark's Square and the Fenice. I could fly via CDG to VCE as we do not have a direct flight to Rome or Venice from our airport. I must connect at JFK or CDG. Just weighing my
options.
