Arrival Florence - jet lag-cooking class??

I arrive in Florence at about 2pm and in the earlier planning stages of this trip, I was thinking to just "chill" go to a lovely dinner and a nice evening walk. But now I am considering taking a cooking class with In Tavola that begins at 5:30 that evening. Please give me your opinions on scheduling this class on my arrival day. My personality is such that cooking relaxes me and I find great pleasure in the whole process. I would be having a four course meal too boot.. opinions, ideas? Experience with In Tavola..?

I would not. It could relax you and put you to sleep. Will you be handling sharp knives? The bottom line is most jet lag adjusts is exposure to the sun which resets the biological clock. Don't think you are going to get a lot of that. Your original plan may be a much better idea.

Its a long trip from Seattle. For me, I would invest the time getting outside and walking and try to keep moving til dusk is my routine. Maybe walk up to Pizza Michelangelo which is my cure for jet lag. If you are planning to fly Lufthansa I think your arrival time is about right and it leaves Seattle mid afternoon. Anyway, my vote would be to wait so I could focus and learn.

I took an In Tavola class last week and it was simply marvelous. It is a very relaxing atmosphere, but it will not put you to sleep :-)

You are grouped with about 3-4 others at your station, (try to get the left side looking from the door) and Roberto or his counterpart are there at every turn to help you. You all share the responsibilities, so there is a nice pace and conversation.

I love to cook yet learned a lot of tips and tricks in his class but it is not exactly a challenging course, not too much to face with jetlag. In fact it has been a highlight of my trip.

After completing 4 courses, you are ushered into a (well I won't ruin the surprise) where you eat what you made and drink as much wine as you wish!

I vote to do it, walking around Florence on my first night there was too overwhelming to really enjoy. Happy travels and happy cooking!!

Thanks everyone. I'm still undecided but leaning toward just going for it.
