Arezzo

We are looking for lodging in Arezzo, only there for two night. Is this a good area? Quartiere di Porta Crucifera, in the center of Arezzo. Also, any suggestions on must do's while there?

Don't know about lodgings, but the city has a big-deal antique market on the first Sunday of each month and the preceding Saturday--or at least it did the last time I checked (in 2017).

The church of San Francesco with its fresco cycle by Piero Della Francesco is probably the most renowned sight in the city.

Anyplace in the historical center would work.
To do list:
San Francesco basilica
Piazza Grande with the Pieve of Santa Maria
Duomo of San Donato
San Domenico Basilica
Museum of medieval art
Giorgio Vasari’s House (a museum).

Arezzo was the filming location of academy award winning movie “La vita è bella” (life is beautiful) with Roberto Benigni, who was born in nearby Misericordia di Castiglion Fiorentino. They have a tour of the various filming locations.
Besides being the gold jewelry capital of Italy, Arezzo is also the antiques’ capital, if you like antiques. They have a fair the first weekend of every month.
The Giostra del Saracino takes place twice a year in June and September.

The Porta Crucifera is a bit out of the thick of things. You'd probably have about a 10-minute walk to the center. Certainly doable.
