My RS Italy 2016 book doesn't cover Arezzo, but it seems to me that it might have been covered in the past. There was a recent discussion about Ravenna, formerly covered, having been removed from the book. I thought the same thing might be true with Arezzo. If anyone has older RS Italy books, would you mind checking this out? If you find Arezzo, please let me know the book's publication date. Unfortunately, my stock of guidebooks had to go prior to a cross-country move.
I suggest you type "Arezzo" in the search box up top ...lots of comment
Arezzo is great, I go there every few years. Google images and see if it appeals to you.
We're booked for five days in Arezzo in September. I find that I get the most practical advice from Rick's books over the others; that's why I was asking specifically if he had ever covered it. Thanks!
Hi Janet - I have the 2013 edition, and it doesn't cover Arezzo, either.

Above is the official tourist website for Arezzo and its Province.
5 days will give you ample time to visit Arezzo and other nearby famous towns in the Province, such as:
Anghiari
Cortona
Lucignano
Poppi
Also other famous localities in Umbria are within easy reach by train from Arezzo:
Castiglion Del Lago
Perugia
Assisi
Spello
Orvieto
All of the above are within 30 to 90 min max by train or bus.
And I just looked at my 2009 Rick Steves Italy - Arezzo is not in there, either. I too remember him covering it at some point, but it may have been so far back that it would be of minimal use now.
Thanks, all. I appreciate your checking your older books.
I took the train to Castiglione del Lago, a beautifully situated town on a lake, but there were no taxis or buses available and it was a trek into town. Worth it, though.
Zoe..when you say a trek...how long is that? Often people will say it is a trek or a long walk, and I have often found that for me what they thought was a long walk was not very far at all! So...a subjective term.
In your estimation how many kilometers was the walk to the Lake from the train station?
I will be in Arezzo for a few days this May.
It's a mile, Ann.
2.2 km from the station to the castle. About 30 min walk.
The E018 bus covers the distance in 4 min.

Not sure if there are taxis standing by, or if you can ask the coffee bar across to call you one.
"There was a recent discussion about Ravenna, formerly covered, having been removed from the book." What?? I can find no such discussion. I would be floored if Rick removed Ravenna.
And, as far as I know, Rick has never "covered" Arezzo.
Roberto's figures are correct. The castle is uphill, but until you actually get to the town, it's pretty flat.
The barista was sympathetic but not very helpful. The TI office (city center) called a taxi for me when I was finished with my visit to the town.
