Areoflot Airlines

We got cheap tickets from JFK to Rome via Moscow. Has anyone flown Areoflot?

I hope you have a great trip! We looked at,but didn't choose, Aeroflot because the layovers were far too long for us. I am curious, though, as to why you didn't ask your question before you bought tickets as it seems a bit moot at this time. Here's a review link-you can draw your own conclusions: http://www.airlinequality.com/Forum/aeroflot.htm

We also got some cheap AeroFlot tix last Summer from DC to Moscow. The flight experience was just fine. Food was the only issue. There was a lot of fish...over and over and over. Sometimes it looked like we had the exact same meal for lunch and dinner. Passengers tended to congregate after takeoff around the extra space at the exit rows. The FA didn't seem to be a problem with this. All in all - fairly typical and non-eventful.

Usually I spend hours, days and weeks going thru trip options and flights so when the price came up for the Areoflot flight I took a chance. Yes, the lay over is long- 5 hours one way and 10 the other but we have visited lots of places we have flown thru this way- Helsinki , N.Y. and Amsterdam. We also have the luxury of some time to play with as we have a month long trip. Sounds like a lot until you are there and then its never enough! Moscow will be more difficult to visit but not sure we would ever go just there so its a small opportunity to try it!

Without a visa, Moscow may be impossible to visit during the layover.

Definitely true. No Visa = No Moscow and getting one is not for the faint of heart. I wonder how transiting through Moscow Airport works for visitors? They wouldn't even let us on the plane in the USA without first verifying we all had Russian Visas for our exact dates.

It's been a number of years, but I've flown Aeroflot both internationally (Chicago-Moscow) and domestically (in Russia). I would say the international flight was fine, no better or worse than any other carriers. Don't expect 1st class service (unless you bought 1st class ticket), but if you purchased a budget ticket, I assume you just want to get to your destination with your bags. I would suggest not reading reviews, I flew Alitalia a couple years ago and agonized over the horrible reviews. It turned out the flight was fine. On the other hand, I flew another "reputable" airline, and they lost my bags for a week.
