We are looking for a central location for day trips for 3 days in Tuscany in Oct. Would you suggest Pistoia -north of Forence or South of Sienna?
That will depend on your mode of transportation. Car? Train? Bus? Organized tours? Bike/hike? Also, WHERE do you plan to visit on these day tours?
We are touring by car
How many days will you be there for?
3 nights - 2 full days and one morning
I would look to stay at an Agritourismo near Siena. That way you are in the middle of all those towns and easy access by car.
Issue resolved! Thanks to all!! I agree.
Another question: Looking for good place to stay in Rome for 4 nights mid October. We'd like to be near the train station or near the Coliseum.
And do you have a budget range for said hotel? Luxury? Hostel? In between? Lots of folks here are fans of Hotel Sonya or Hotel Aberdeen. My budget is pretty tight so I'm staying at Hotel Julia near the trevi fountain and Piazza Barberini this October. Its quite a bit cheaper than Ricks picks, and Ive stayed there before so I know they do a good breakfast. I found it using Booking.com.
For a budget B&B try B&B Little Italy. If you like a little more space, check out apartments thru VRBO.com or Booking.com. Many many options.
Rick's cheapest guidebook listing is the convent at www.csse-roma, doubles as low as €66 with shared bath, but it does book up quickly and also has a curfew (doors locked) at 23:00.
