Can anyone recommend an area in Rome to stay which would be convenient for getting to the airport? Thanks in advance!

Any area in central Rome is fine if taking a cab. If taking the train or shuttle bus, I'd stay near Termini.
There are two airports: I assume you mean Fiumicino/ Leonardo da Vinci? Ciampino is the other one and is serviced mostly by budget airlines.

I like the area around the Pantheon and Piazza Navona. And now that cabs are fixed fare, I just use a cab. There's always two of us and we split the 48 Euro fare.

I have always stayed at Hotel Aberdeen near termini. Recommended br Rick Steves. Just loved it and looking forward to returning.
