Are we going in circles?

Trying to get this trip planned for October. Our plan is to stay in Rome 3 nts, Tuscany (based in Siena or ?) for 4 nts, Florence 2 nts, Cinque Terra 2 nts, then Lucca/Pisa and flying out of Pisa. Does it seem like there would be a better route/sequence to these cities? The reason for Florence later in the trip is it sounds like most museums are closed on Mondays, so tried to avoid the beginning of the week. We have the rooms booked in Rome and Florence, but can be flexible with the rest (and could probably move Florence too.)
Thanks!

Looks like you are moving south to north with a little jog west to CT. Seems pretty straightforward and non-circular to me. :-) I think the determining factor to your final order will be where in Tuscany you opt to go.

You might consider basing in Siena or similar town for 5 nights and daytripping into Florence, rather than staying directly in the city. Then you could add a night to CT, since 2 nights seems a hair on the short side for that area.

I think your order makes sense, and the only "circular" part is returning to Pisa area for your flight home. Siena makes a good base for day trips due to plentiful public transportation connections. If you'll have a car for Tuscany, then there are other good options. I would highly recommend staying in Florence rather than day tripping from Siena. It's really nice in the evening when the crowds have thinned and everyone is out for an evening stroll. Love Lucca but Pisa might be a better choice if you have an early flight. There was a recent posting about transportation from Lucca to Pisa airport which could be helpful in your decision.
