I'm wondering if I can rely on the Trenitalia self-service ticket machines to print a copy of my ticket? Does anyone have current information? I want to know if I'll need to queue up at the Trenitalia ticket counter. Thanks
mike,
I haven't heard any reports of the ticket Kiosks not working. There always seems to be a few machines at every station that are "Out of Service" for one reason or another, but there are always some working machines.
Good news. Thanks Ken. I've heard there are often problems with the self-serve machines.
I personally don't know if the self service machine will print a copy of your ticket. You can buy tickets at the machines a d it will print that ticket. May not print previously purchased tickets.
Exactly. And that is my particular concern. From an online purchase, I have email receipts/confirmations and I was instructed to print a ticket before boarding.
Then print it at home or at a hotel. I don't think the self serve machine print prepurchased tickets. Theresa below asked the same question. See her responses.
Procedures vary by ticket type and place/agent of purchase. If it's an international ticket purchased through Trenitalia, then it may need to be printed at the station. Some domestic tickets (within Italy) are "ticketless" and you just need the PNR code, or others may be print-at-home (with a link to a PDF format that you can print on 8.5" x 11" paper).
I always print my tickets at home and save the email copy as well. One less thing to stress over.
If you purchased the ticket from Rail Europe, note this news bulletin that I just received:
At this time and until further notice, travelers with Trenitalia Print at Station tickets should have their ticket(s) printed at a Trenitalia ticket counter in a main train station.
