Are there unusual or interesting ways to get from Copenhagen to Florence?

Yes, I am late in planning how to get from Copenhagen to Florence sometime between Sep 23 and Sep 28.

Is there a combination of flights, trains, or buses? Has anyone used rideshare?
I’ve looked at flying from Copenhagen to Milan, Florence, or Venice and connecting with a train.

Is there a better city to go out of to get there?

Thanks.

There are many ways and plenty of interesting places to stop at along the way.

I’ve liked your comments and choices in past. Which way would you go?
Also, from Copenhagen, what is best day trip into Sweden?

With 5 days, you could do this by train quite easily. Either through Switzerland (Copenhagen-Hamburg-Basel-Milan-Florence) or through Austria (Copenhagen-Hamburg-Munich-Innsbruck-Verona-Florence). Stop wherever you'd like on either route; some night trains could be of use as well (there's definitely a Hamburg-Basel-Zürich, for example).

timing would have to be just right, because the prevailing winds are normally west to east, and you need to go s-s-w, but if you could be on the back end of a deep low, that should give you a day or two of s-s-w wind, you might be able to get close using a hot air balloon.

That should meet your need for "unusual or interesting".

You would need expert piloting to clear the Alps but the views would be amazing.

I found the ferry part of the ride from Lübeck-Copenhagen to be un-scenic, but it's interesting to drive an entire train directly onto the ferry, along with road tractor-trailers. I had done the trip Hamburg-Oslo in 1987, but they only pushed the passenger coaches onto a barge back then, no locomotive.

Tim, yes, being inside a train that drove onto and off a ferry has to be one of the most interesting train rides I've done.
Certainly better that the ride over the pass between Italy and Germany one year- the winter scenery was fantastic. But the pain from a blocked sinus was excruciating.

Both Copenhagen and Florence are on the Eurovelo 7, the bicycle route who connect Malta and Norway: https://en.eurovelo.com/ev7
Probably is not what you are looking for, but should be for sure something not so usual and interesting.

Thank you! Glad to hear that my posts are appreciated! I like Nigel's idea about a hot air balloon! That will certainly be a memorable trip with amazing views!

A bit cheaper would be to travel by train and make a couple of stops along the way. With five days you have plenty of time to make a few stops. My suggestion would be a stop in Hamburg or Lübeck first, northern Germany is charming and underrated among Americans who seem to prefer southern Germany. Then somewhere a bit more south in Germany, maybe the Rhine valley or some charming town, e.g. Freiburg. Or cross the Rhine to Strasbourg. After that I'd suggest a night or two somewhere in the Alps.

As for day trips to Sweden from Copenhagen, it depends on what you are interested in. But for towns to visit my suggestion is Helsingborg, Lund or Ystad.

With only 5 days I guess walking the pilgrim route is out of the question. What about Flixbus? I haven't tried it myself, but they get contradicting reviews, so you night be into all kinds of adventure. Note: The app is better than the web page.
