Are the garbage problems in Campania really that bad?

Hi all,

This post is mainly for my information, not sure yet if I will be travelling there.
I get conflicting opinions from all about garbage problems in Naples, Sorrento and Amalfi.
I would like to know what really is happening there?

Some people say its perfectly fine, no problem, while some posts suggest that we will see garbage even in the beach waters like in Sorrento..
Is it really bad or just hula created by media.

At the beginning of July, I saw no signs of garbage issues in tourist areas such as Sorrento, Capri and the ruins of Pompeii. I did, however, see mounds of garbage by the roadside when taking the bus up Vesuvius and in certain areas of Napoli. I'm left with the impression that they're doing their best to remove trash from tourist areas, if nowhere else.
