Are hotel reservations necessary on the Amalfi Coast in late April or can we be spontaneous and book as we go? We will need 2 double rooms each night.

If you can, book ahead if you travel there during the period between April 24 and May 3.
Apr 25 National Holiday (Liberation Day)
May 1 National Holiday throughout Europe (Labor day)
May 2/3 Weekend.

This will be our 4th time to Italy in May, and I just completed booking two double rooms in four cities. I had to ask my fellow forum members for some advice because when I started I found everything I wanted was full. So I ended up reserving the rooms in Rome through their website, but two rooms had to be reserved on bookings.com because apparently this is how hotels are doing it in Italy now. The fourth one in the Cinque Terre probably came through after requesting at four other places. I don't know how busy hotels are in April, but I was completely shocked when I went to do ours.
