Just wondering if we will have a difficult time locating a harware store in Venice, Florence and Rome. Thought this may be a great place to purchase a corkscrew and combination utility knife once we arrive.
I don't remember seeing a lot of "hardward stores" per se but department stores are plentiful as are wines stores which will carry those items.
Often times grocery stores will have them or borrow from your hotel.
The super markets will carry everything you need. I've never seen a "hardware store"... But then, I wasn't looking either!!!
A supermarket will probably have what you want. You may not be able to get an all in one but I'm sure you would find a cheap knife and corkscrew. I have never seen an actual hardware shop - the closest was a man with a couple of tables set out in a little square in the middle of the old part of Genoa. It was like a Sunday market.
A hardware store in Italy is called a ferramenta, and they would carry a corkscrew. Ask at your hotel where is the closest one to you, in the center of town there are always at least two or three.
not hard to find at all...but...I wouldn't bother really...even our grocery stores in the south have those items :-) as would a Tabacchi...or a housewares shop - I have also seen them in some delis/little convenience stores in Venice as well.
There are "hardware" stores in most towns. We needed a screw driver for a repair on our bike in Perugia, and there was one right on the main road.
you'll have to ask, or walk around to find them, but Italians need to purchase this stuff too - so there are stores.
Ask as your hotel, they'll know where one is, or find someone who can help you find one...or ask on the street.
We saw a few hardware stores in all or walking of Venice. There are lots of "catch all stores" the carry everything and I don't think you will have any problem finding a corkscrew.
Happy travels!
they are called 'ferramenta' ~ as others have said, most large grocery stores will carry the items you're asking about. Buon viaggio!
There is a hardware store on Via Celimontana, very near to the Colliseum. It's pretty small, but so is the street it's on so you shouldn't have much trouble finding it.
If you put your own corkscrew in your CHECKED luggage, you won't have to buy one in Italy. Corkscrews are corkscrews so the one you buy in Italy will look just like the one you brought from the USA.
