are Golf Cart Tours a good idea?

I am really encouraged by the idea of taking a Golf Cart Tour in Rome, more as an introduction to the city. I know that traffic can be aggressive in Italy, but is this an issue for Golf Cart Tours?
thanks

Hi Green,

I don't know what a golf cart tour is in Rome. I never saw one in the streets of Rome. I saw a lot of tour buses doing drive-bys. Tons of scooters with locals zipping in and out of their daily lives.

Rome is a big city, but "definitely" a walking city and outside museum too (all attractions are not that far apart. St. Peter's and The Vatican are about an hour's walk, if one is up to it. But, Express #40 goes close to the Piazza.*

There are the city buses (1,50€) good for 100 minutes with a transfer, once validated. Metro is same price but good for one ride.

Unless there is a mobility issue at stake (not prying), it's really to a traveler's advantage to explore as many nooks and crannies she/he can. Aside from the main and gorgeous attractions and churches, there can be little surprises around any corner you may turn.

Little side story: Ha, one time, somehow, I misunderstood, got on a wrong bus and got a view of the outskirts of Rome. Did it take some of my time, yes. (I didn't have anything planned sensitive to time or ticketing.) I sat there, looking out the window, watching "Rome walk by", taking it all in, listening to the Italians chat on. It was fun. Aside from being around a different language, it seemed like I was in my own city riding a bus or train, lol.

*Of course, proximity to attractions, churches & museums will depend upon where you lodge. I was thinking in terms of "Termini" where I've stayed.

Oh, thought of something.

While crossing streets in Rome, just cross in the crosswalk. There are traffic signals of course. But, like anywhere, it's always good to look both ways and then look again, lol. Really, you'll be fine.

I noted that cyclists are all over the place. We had the pedestrian signal to go across the street; a cyclist decides he is trying out for the future Olympics...he comes barreling around the corner, almost hit me. (He was made aware that was not acceptable.)

I don't know about golf carts, but in 2017 I went on a Scooteroma tour, riding on the back of a Vespa driven by the tour guide. I did the Street Art one customized for me. The guide picked me up at my apartment and returned me there a few hours later.

It was a blast and one of my favorite things I've ever done in Europe. I was in Rome for 6 nights and got around on foot, by bus and taxi. But on this tour we went places I could never have found on my own, plus I loved being a part of the Vespa crowd, if only for a few hours. They have a variety of tour options, including one in an Ape Calessino that's sort of like a golf cart and can take more than one person.

Here's the link to their tours. Go almost to the bottom and you'll see the Ape vehicle they use. As with my case, they can customize their tours for you. Be aware that the tours are not cheap.

I did a golf cart tour with my mom with Angel Tours in Rome. It was fun and made it easy for her to get around and see everything. I felt safe and didn't have any issues with other cars.
