Are any buses running between Ferrara and Ravenna, since the flooding? Need to get to cruise port.

Hi, we previously purchased train tickets from Venice to Ravenna, via Ferrara traveling on 5/29. According to Trenitalia website today, they still don't know when train service will resume between Ferrara and Ravenna, due to continued bad weather. I found that buses were running between Faenza and Forlì, but don't know about Ferrara to Ravenna. We are supposed to embark on RC cruise in Ravenna on 5/29. Any help will be appreciated. thank you!

I am not sure how much help this will be, but on this older post, scroll down near to the bottom and see the entry by Ricky, a forum member from Modena.

You may want to send him a message to ask what he knows, or what bus line does that route so you can check directly.
Also contact the cruise line to see how the port is handling things or if theynoffer some shuttles at this late date. Chances are it may require a move to Venice to pick up the shuttle....at some expense.

If it turns out that there's no public transportation available, so the obvious solution is hightailing it up to Venice in order to turn around and take an expensive cruise-line transfer back south to Ravenna, I'd check into private transportation straight from Ferrara to Ravenna. It's less than 60 miles by the shortest route ViaMichelin identifies, so the cost might not be horrendous by comparison to the two-step cruise shuttle trip.

I'm not claiming this is necessarily a great solution. By taxi/private driver, you'd effectively pay for the 120-mile round trip, and there's probably a limited number of drivers available in Ferrara or Ravenna to serve the needs of more than a few people in the situation you may be in come May 28 or 29.

At present there are still flooded areas between Ferrara and Ravenna, there is no public transportation available. I understand the trip can be somehow made by car. The only solution with public transportation looks to be Venice - Bologna, then regional train to Faenza, bus to Forlì, regional train to Rimini and then train to Ravenna - the last leg has resumed today. Frankly speaking, looks a travel from hell and I would not want to try it with luggage. Also, trains cannot run to exact timetables and it could take a lot of time.

What you need to do now is contact the cruise provider. Obviously you won't be the only one having this problem and they should keep informed about what you can do. I would not be surprised if the cruise is diverted to a different port - it would look to me the only sensible thing to do, considering that the area is devastated and cannot take care of tourists.

Thank you for the information. So far the cruise provider has no updates or changes. They are providing transport via bus from Venice to Ravenna that we can still purchase if needed. We had planned to do some sightseeing in Ravenna before getting taxi to port, and we already purchased the train tickets, so wanted to see if we could somehow still make that work. I'm a planner and like to have details worked out but regardless, I'm reminded that our situation is nothing compared to what the people living in these flood affected areas are experiencing.

We are also set to embark with RC on Explorer of the Seas on 5/29. We had planned to stay in Ravenna the night before embarkation, but haven't been able to get in touch with our hotel for almost 3 days. The cruise that left on 5/21 (same ship) was supposed to embark from Ravenna, but was rerouted to embark in Trieste. Check-in happened in Venice and then the cruise line transferred guests to Trieste by bus. My best guess is that, that would be our most likely alternate, but, after calling the cruise line, were informed they will not release the final manifest until Saturday morning 5/28. Not much time to change plans! Here is the article that I found most helpful.
