We will be there for the first time ever and want to pick up some small leather gifts, like belts and wallets but it will be on a Sunday only. I saw on cruisecritic.com that there is a "leather school" behind the Church of Santa Croce. Would that place or any other leather places be open on a Sunday?
It is a tourist town. If you want to the tourist money you stay open seven days a week. Don't know about the leather school but most of the shops are open on Sunday or at least they were when we were there.
Was last in Florence this past July and on Sunday many stores were open including the San Lorenzo market near the San Lorenzo Church.
I was there on an Easter Sunday and not much seemed to be closed down at all.
Thanks everyone. What exactly is the Market you mention?
Debbie, Are you referring to the San Lorenzo market? Here's a description: www.walkaboutflorence.com/articles/markets-florence The Mercato Centrale has lots of different food booths. The street market seems to cover an extensive part of that neighborhood, selling all kinds of goods.
One thing to be aware of is that a lot of stores will close for siesta from 1 3 or 4 (which, of course, is always when we wanted to shop!). As for leather, there's an entire district so you'll have lots of options. We want to Leonardo Leather School and I got a nice purse. They offer a warranty and won't charge you the sales tax but you have to send in the right paperwork after you go through customs or they will then charge you for the tax a few weeks later(whereas a lot of places will charge the tax upfront and then credit it back to you).
Most all are open
Yes, I was there in May staying near the San Lorenzo Market and it was open on Sunday.
Kelley: The "Mercato Centrale di San Lorenzo" is open Monday through Saturday from 7am to 2pm. That is the big building on via dell'Ariento where they sell food stuff. But that is different from the "barroccini" (carts) in the streets, which stay open longer, including on Sundays. Not sure what you intend for San Lorenzo Market.
Hello I just want to confirm - San Lorenzo market is open on Sunday? I have looked in a couple of other places online and they all say closed Sunday - but I believe those who have actually been there over a website - so if someone could confirm for me that would be great! Thank you
Kelley
