Apt for family of 4 in Rome: specifics & recommendation for location

We will be going to Padova & Rome (2 adults & two 12 year olds) in April. I always rent an apartment when on vacation, but I have to admit that I am feeling a bit overwhelmed by Rome. We are all set for Padova. Has anyone stayed in an apt in Rome for 4 that would recommend it and can give me the contact info? I've looked on vrbo.com, traveladvisor, etc, but would love a personal recommendation. Thank you. SuzieeQQ San Diego

It just drives me nuts when apartment owners don't put the address on their listings. At the very least, they could tell you what street it's on, with the closest cross street. At any rate, this one does look like a great place in a (generally) great location.

Our family of 4 stayed here several years ago and yes, the picture is of the owners whom we spoke with in person: http://www.bed-and-breakfast-in-italy.com/pagina.cfm?id=3900&idregione=7 There is a smaller apt and a larger one. At the time, the owners lived in the larger one so obviously we were in the smaller. It was absolutely fantastic. Our first apartment rental and it was just out of this world. It was clean, fantastic location, cool with AC and big - 3 separate levels with washing machine included. The owners were extremely nice and owned the restaurant which was on the ground floor of the apartment building. We were able to go out each morning and get breakfast items liked fresh baked croissants or breads, fruits, juice and bring them back and have a very comfortable breakfast around our own table. We kept the fridge stocked with sodas from the local grocer at a FRACTION of the cost of buying them at a snack bar. Yes - that was one of our best vacations ever and this apartment had a lot to do with it.

I'll pass on Ron in Rome's contact vickie at "sleepinitaly" Google this, their website can filter on rooms, and area. Pricing including booking fee, cleaning, deposit are all shown. We selected apartments around campo de flori (spelling?) Followed up with flipkey reviews (trip advisor). Just be aware of the age of any reviews and that's any website. Use Google maps, street view to check out the addresses. Sleep in Italy, responded well to emails providing a few suggestions with no pressure. Booking and deposit can then be done on line.
Ron's tip worked for us. Regards

My family stayed in this apartment a couple of weeks ago and liked it very much. The property managers are great people to work with.

Check this one out: http://www.vrbo.com/34749 I stayed here last year and am looking at it again this spring. It's very large and you can't beat the location. It's a very historic building and has a politician living there so the good/bad is that there is a lot of security but you have to keep the blinds closed or you will be photographed a 100 times. It's a wonderful neighborhood too. The owner was very easy to deal with. Have fun!

We especially liked staying in the sourthern Roman suburbs and taking a 30 minute train ride into the city to hit the sights. WWW.OliveTreeHill.com was E70 per night, and Ivano is part cook, part driver/tour operator. They're the top rated B&B in the area, with an incredible level of service. He has 3 really nice rooms for 2 people and an apartment for 4 people. He's listed in TripAdvisor.com. We quickly found out that there are as many tourist sites to see outside of Rome as there is in the city center.
