April in Venice

My daughter and I will be spending 3 nights in Venice in April, 2018.
After Venice, we have 4 nights to travel before meeting up with family to spend a week in Tuscany.
Any ideas of where to go during that time? We love being by the water...maybe ending in Florence for 2 nights? I appreciate your ideas!

Hmmm, I would changing locations twice for two nights (one full day) each.... And Venice is by the water, after all.

How about an extra night in Venice and then 3 nights in Florence or all 4 in Florence? There's lots to do in both locations.

It's not by the water, but Verona, Vicenza, and Padua are wonderful and near Venice. Lake Garda is wonderful and nearby. These are really worth experiencing and don't take up too much travel time. They are also less expensive than Venice or Florence.

It depends on what you want to see and do. For instance, Florence is the place for Renaissance sculpture, painting and architecture. If that floats your boat, you'll want 3 days there. You could spend a full day in Verona or Padua before that, leaving Venice early morning and storing your bags at the train station before continuing on the Florence in the evening. Or you could spend your time in Bologna, day-tripping to nearby towns by train, like Padua, Ravenna, Ferrara, Modena.
