April in Italy

I have a rough itinerary for my Italy April trip with husband and 15 year old son.

We fly into Venice from NYC on Holy Thursday. We do not yet have accommodations and are hoping for recommendations. 2 nights.
My son would like to do Row Venice, but other than that we have no plans. Any recommendations for a guided tour?

Plan to take train to Rome Saturday morning. Will be staying at the Inn at the Roman Forum.
Cant decide if we should do 3 or 4 nights in Rome.
Would like to do the must sees, but will be there Easter Sunday and I understand much is closed on Monday.

Will take train to Sorrento on Tuesday or Wednesday. Not sure if its better to have 3 or 4 nights in Rome or 3 or 4 nights in Sorrento in April. Thoughts?

Also, looking for a good place to stay in Sorrento. My son is big now....no sleeping on a pull out couch!
He is most interested in Capri. Any suggestions?

I looked into Perillo to create a tour for us but it seems rather expensive for mainly arranging transfers.
I speak very little Italian though, so having those details addressed would allow me to actually enjoy my vacation too!

Looking forward to your thoughts. Ciao!

Where are you flying home from? If not Naples I would change the order-
Venice-Sorrento-Rome -fly home from Rome

OK- you’ll need to list the things you want to see/do in Rome and Sorrento before you can decide how any nights each.

A 3 night stay means 2 days for sightseeing plus a partial late afternoon/evening after travel to, checking in, etc

Rome- the Colosseum/Forum area needs a good 2/3 day.
Another day for Heart of Rome and that’s a 3 night stay- your first day is only partial and you also have Easter Sunday and Monday to deal with

Sorrento- the typical day trips all each need a day
Pompeii- 1 day
Capri- 1 day
Amalfi coast towns- 1 day
Any interest in visiting Naples? 1 day

Lodging- I assume you are OK with 1 hotel room?
booking.com is a good place to research- set your filters and see what pops up

Venice
We’ve always stayed at Hotel Ala in Venice- it’s perfectly located and I know they have “family rooms” (never mind what their website says about bit being “adults only” not sure what that is about!)
Hotel Flora is another very similar to Hotel Ala as far as location, price, etc-
both get good reviews here all the time

As for tours- you only have 1 day and you want Row Venice, I’d just wander and do the RS walk and Grand Canal tour from his guide.

The Secret itineraries tour is fabulous but not sure how that will fit with your short stay in Venice

Sorrento
Grand Hotel de la Ville is wonderful- don’t know your budget
Hotel Antiche Mura is another highly recommended
Both easy walking distance to train and town

Take a look at Mondo Guides tours for your time in Sorrento
www.sharedtours.com
highly recommended and quite affordable

I looked into Perillo to create a tour for us but it seems rather
expensive for mainly arranging transfers.

You'll get plenty of help and recommendations here for how to get to and from.

Lots of info here on Sorrento area

How many days are you staying in Italy? I'm only asking because April 25 is a National Holyday.

I understand much is closed on Monday.

Many things are closed on Easter Monday, but not those catering to Italians making the traditional "Pasquetta" day-trip: the bigger museums and archaeological sites, the restaurants in the city center and so on will be open.

The problem will be Romans going somewhere else and Italians from other regions arriving in large numbers. Grumpy waiters who'd like to be anywhere else with their friends dealing with noisy Italian tourists at the next table.

For instance Pompeii has been making a "last minute special opening" on Easter Monday for 5 years in a row, now. What begun as a way to make locals visit "their" site again draws hordes of Neapolitans. They all think: "Every Neapolitan goes to Capri and the Amalfi Coast any given Ester Monday, let's go to Pompeii this year: it will be deserted!" Then they all meet in line out of the Porta Marina gate while Pompeiians flock to Capri no to wait in line with those annoying Neapolitans...
