April in Italy

Planning a visit in mid April, partly to see our daughter in Florence. Suggestions welcome for a tricky time weather wise. Will it be too cold in the lakes region? Where else should we look to stay not more than about 2 hours from Florence so we can visit with our daughter. Many thanks

Tuscany and Urbino areas would be just around 2 hrs.
Buses from Florence to Tuscany are easy and reasonable. Or rent a car from Florence airport and drive easily seeing all the hi pts and there are many. incl Assisi and Orvieto for sure. Lucca and Pisa are also a short distance from Florence. No need to risk weather in lakes region, save for another trip there is alot to do just outside of Florence. Remember La Dolce Vida is to slow down & enjoy.

Hi Tom, I agree with TS - slow down and don't spread yourself too thin. My first trip to Italy, I broke those two rules and realized upon my other trips there, that it is so much more enjoyable not to. I love Lucca - easy to get to via train and cut little city/village. If this is your first time, I would skip the car (very difficult in and out of Florence). Trains are easy there. Get to know what you like and save a car rental for, say, Le Marche and Umbria regions (you can pick up a car outside of Siena - which is easy driving and take it to the far flung, "not so easy to reach via train" towns.) Have fun! I will also be going in April :)

Siena is a easy bus ride from Florence. Pisa and Lucca are easy train ride from Florence.
Tuscany has so much to see, I would concentrate on that area besides seeing as much of Florence as possible.
