We will land in Venice on Wednesday Apr 24. Thursday is an Italian holiday along with St Mark Day in Venice. Has anyone been in Venice during that time? I was wondering what events take place. We will have my elderlly 78 y/o mother with us so I dont know whether to plan on visiting the islands that day or maybe watch events from our hotel as we have a hotel with a rooftop balcony on the grand canal. Thanks for any info!

Yes, we were in Venice on April 25, the combination of two holidays, Liberation Day and Feast of San Marco.. Italians arrived from the trains on their day off. The city was packed so we escaped to a neighborhood setting. Forget crossing any bridges like Accademia.I would take your mother out of the fray and visit some neighborhood churches as those listed in the Chorus Pass, filled with great art. You can check the vaporetto stop for the islands and see what it's like. If OK, visit Torcello and Burano.
