I will be in Rome April 23rd through May 1st 2011with a group of 4. We are looking at staying in Ponte Milvio- we are staying 8 nights and plan on seeing as many sights as possible with at least one day trip. We want to be able to walk whenever possible. Is Ponte Milvio a convenient location?
Ponte Milvio is on the NE side of town, about a 1/2 mile from the Olympic Stadium. From here, you would probably ride buses each day into town. Depending on which side of the river you are on, there are multiple bus or tram options. I prefer the west side of Ponte Milvio - the same side as the Olympc Stadium. From here, you can catch the 32 or 271 buses to Ottaviano and ride the metro anywhere into town. Or you can catch any multiple of buses that will take you to Piazza Mancini, which is across the river and a major bus hub. I'm not sure I'd ever walk from the Ponte Milvio - although I've done it a couple times during bus strikes. The west side, at the bridge, is probably more active. But on either side there are many small restaurants, shops, etc. You'll get a much more "local" flavor in a location such as this. And after a day of figuring out the buses, (depending on the exact location of the apartment), you'll find you have different options - like the 201, 301, 232, 220, etc. read this post for more bus info: http://tinyurl.com/rome-bus
Thank you so much! This information helps a lot.
