Just received my first IPad and plan on bringing it on my trip to Italy. Are there any electrical conversion issues I should plan for? According to Apple, their products are designed w/ a built in voltage converter so they work both in the USA as well as Italy and the rest of Europe. I plan on bringing an adapter, but wanted to see if others have had any problems with their Apple products in Europe. Thank you so very much! Mary
Mary, I don't personally use any Apple products, but my daughter has an IPad and IPod Touch and she's successfully used them overseas. The answer, in other words is "no, you should have no conversion issues."
We used our Ipad without any problem. Just remember you need a convert for the plug. We bought the chip that give you internet access at the airport but hardly needed it because there is wifi in alot of places.
I have an older iPod here, and plug it in with no problems. All I use is a plug ADAPTER (not a power converter). The power source in the device itself can handle from 110-240V, in other words, it can work on American current or European. This is the case with most relatively recent devices such as computers, cell phones, tablet PCs, etc. On the back of it, or somewhere on the cord (if the cord has a transformer on it), there is some fine print that will indicate this. Just look for something like "110-240V".
As others have said, it will be fine. I can speak from personal experience, in reverse....I bought my ipad in Spain several months ago and am now using it in the Caribbean, with US voltage. You will need a plug adaptor - I found one which has an add-on into which you can put the usb end of the ipad cable, and as it is not plug to adaptor, it is a stronger grip.
I've used Apple products in Europe since 2006. Iphones, IPod, Ipad. No problem at all! you've already purchased the voltage adapter, so you are set. If your New Ipad has 4G, you should turn off roaming before you leave the US. If not sure, stop in an Apple store (must be one in Anchorage?) and have them show you how. I'd suggest you download some TV shows or movies you'd like to watch before you leave the US and enjoy them on your trip. I've used my Apple products in England, Switzerland, France, Italy and Germany. Got my ipad last year, and used it for the first time in france. I loved being able to Facetime my kids at home (kids--they are 28 and 30). No more cell calls, or email, we get to talk face to face! Fun to share my trip that way with them.
