Is it worthwhile going out to see the Appian Way. How long does it take?
Even though, the section from Sabastian gate to Quo Vadis is "Closed" on Sundays, its still open for buses and wedding traffic... for which there are many and there is no room.
So you want to take the #660 bus to at least Casa dell Appia Antica and start from there.
It's worth a look, but only if you have seen all of the major sites and minor sites around the center of Rome. Put it on your list but far down on it.
I spent half a day there, but I rented a bike.
We were on the Appian Way in 2004. It was a wonderful experience. No cars, no fumes, no scooters, just a quiet interlude. We ate our lunch at roadside while next to us, in a farm field, sheep ate theirs. You can easily lose track of time and spend hours there. It is not difficult to get to, but as we remember, requires a metro and a bus.
