Apartments in Italy for celiac traveler

I have read posts about eating gluten-free in Italy; very helpful. Am still nervous about cross-contamination and think apts. may be better for me, esp. once out of Rome. Itinerary is Rome, Sorrento, Orvieto area, and the Lakes. Any lodging suggestions for hotels, apts. or BnB's that are Gf friendly and charming/reasonably priced would be wonderful!

I'm not trying to be rude or stupid but what does renting an apartment have to do with being celiac? They don't supply the food so.....I'm a little confused. Won't any apartment do if you need to buy your own food? If not, can you explain why so that I know for future reference? Donna

Yes, I realized after the post that the question was ill-composed. What I am seeking is the option of using a kitchen while also having the benefits of access to management/staff, as you'd find in a bnb or hotel, for help with questions about local services, tours, restaurants, etc. Control of my food means I won't risk getting sick, and the easiest way to do that is an apt. But I've read staying in apt. usually means you are totally "on your own" for all the rest of your needs/questions, which isn't ideal for us this trip (see roninrome.com for his comments on apts.) I have found that the Nicholas Inn near the Coliseum also has apts. across the street, and another BnB offers kitchen privileges, so what I want is out there and recommendations from others who have used such places would also be helpful in the areas I am visiting. Thanks.

Okay, I understand. Yes, there are some hotels that also rent apartments. I haven't used any so can't help you with that. You can try venere.com. They will usually list the hotel and the apartments. As for food options, if you go to Trip Advisor there is a thread that lists sites that are celiac friendly. You can do an advanced search to find this thread or post a new thread asking about it and someone will post a link. You can also ask for advice on grocery stores in the area you'll be staying. There are tons of them and I'm sure once you pick a hotel, B&B or apartment people will be able to give exact locations for you to shop. Donna
