Hello All. We are planning a week-long trip to Rome in November 2026. This will be our first visit to Rome. We are looking at apartments to rent for our stay to have a bit more room than a hotel provides. I am reaching out to my fellow posters to see what "neighborhoods" you would recommend we look at for lodging. I have some mobility problems (bad knees and back). Hence, public transportation to the sites and easy walks to restaurants are a must for us. I would appreciate any tips or feedback. Thank you!!!
I always stay near Campo dei Fiori and Piazza Navona. Public transportation (buses and taxis) are about a block away, next to Chiesa Nuova. VRBO has always been reliable and their descriptions are accurate about steps, elevators, and details of the apartments. I like to spend evenings in Trastevere - that will be about a 20 minute walk to Piazza Santa Maria in Trastevere but it is flat all the way. The Vatican is about the same distance. Other than that, take the bus or taxi?
We booked through Incentrum, not far from the Spanish Steps. There is a metro stop there, and one of the buildings has an elevator (but the one we stayed in didn't, so if you book with them, make sure you book in the Via Vittoria building).
We like to stay in Testaccio. It is essentially flat and very walkable. Many great Roman restaurants. We try to stay in apartments. Testaccio has good public transportation with buses and trams. The Piramide metro is only about a 700 meter walk away,
I stayed in an apartment near Piazza Naona (5 minute walk or so) that I liked a lot. IT has two bedrooms, a living room, dining area and kitchen, plus two outdoor terraces. It's not huge, but it's quirky and charming. I thought the location was fantastic. Near to everything, but on a quiet street so no street noise. I think it was on the fifth floor, but it has an elevator. It's called Navona, Campo de Fiori - Penthouse Terraced, and you can find it on VRBO.
