Apartment rental in Varenna, Italy

I will be traveling to Lake Como in September and am thinking of renting an apartment in Varenna for a week. Does anyone have a recommendation for a rental there? I checked Rick's book but he didn't have any apartments listed in that area.

My husband and I stayed at Holiday Apartment Annina House ([email protected])in June of 2011. It was a fantastic little apartment with a prime location for a very reasonable price. The couple renting the apartment met us at the train station and drove us to the apartment. They gave us some good suggestions and then let us be. I would highly recommend this rental! Maria Gaddi is the name of the lovely woman who rents the apartment. PM me if you would like further info.

Thanks Alex and Jeanine. I had already looked at Maria's apartment through a different link, but this link had better photos. I am an artist and am planning to do a lot of painting while I am there so this is a definite possibility.

My wife did many watercolors while in Varenna. One ideal spot we liked was Caffe Varenna...right on the lakefront with a nice view over the lake. The owner, Eros, is very friendly as is his staff...great Aperol Spritz's to be enjoyed as well. We would sit (with our Jack Russell, Thor) and just take it all in...you'll love it there.
Make sure you treat yourself to a meal at La Vista.

My brushes are ready and my mouth is watering, Alex! LOL We have been to other parts of Italy before but this will be our first visit to Lake Como. We will probably return to either Tuscany or try Umbria this trip, and of course return to our favorite spot, Venice.

Thanks for all the information!

Enjoy Joan,
Let us know how the apartment is if you rent that one. My wife has painted her way across Tuscany, Venice, and to Cinque Terra it so fine to have her work on our walls at home to remind of the time. Try taking the ferry up to Gravedona in the northern end of the lake...very nice Romanesque church up there. Of course the cathedral in Como presents a nice front as well...also nice cafes in the square in front as well. Trust me you will love your meal at LaVista...make sure to reserve and get a table on the terrace with the great lake view. If you want a purely fantastic view of the lake walk yourself up to the Eremo Gaudio (about 10 min walk from central Varenna) and have a coffee, drink, or meal on their terrace...best views of the lake anywhere. There is a Villa next door that is for sale...we have our eye on that. (:-)

Check out this apartment: We stayed 4 nights here in April/May 2013... Lovely lake front views, wonderful hosts, and they own the little bar/restaurant just across the walkway that you'll have a view of from your balcony... Wonderful couple, very welcoming, and breakfast lakeside every morning. I found it on TA... Can I put Trip Advisor on this post?

Lois,
What I try to do is give the link:

The apartment is in a great location...I think it is right up from the Varenna Caffee which we enjoyed immensely. You could also give the link to the TA reviews as well:

Looks great. Did you eat at LaVista when you were there?
LOL Fullerton is where I spent my youth long ago when there were still orange groves and Disneyland had a .65 cent general admission.

Alex, thanks for adding the link, which I was too rushed to think to do.
We ate 2 of our 4 nights at the Apt's owner's Bar IL Molo. It was joy, very good, wonderful service, and the Apt is lovely/comfortable.. The views are stunning from the windows/of the small terrace. I know, chatting with others, they were ''very envious'' when we pointed out the location of our Apt's terrace.

I have reviews/photos for both the Apt and the Bar on TA, under TA ID iashutterbug.

The Apt is very good size for 2, with a spiral staircase running to the upper floor/loft were there was a King?? and a twin. Very limited views from that level due to a sloaped roof, but 2 skylights to let out the heat/and the light in. We were ''very happy'' in this Apt/Service.
