Apartment or Hostel in Venice

I will be in Venice from July 18th - 21st. I will be traveling with 6 youths (ages 15 - 18). We will not have a car so will need to be at a location where getting around to sight see must be easy.

I want to keep expenses to a minimum.

Any ideas on Hostels or apartments?

Have been to Venice twice. We've rented apartments through vrbo.com. Very reasonable and trustworthy. It's a great way to save some money. You don't have to eat every meal in restaurants. I can imagine what it is like to feed six teenagers!

Did you stay in the center of Venice? I've found a place on VRBO, but it is in Lido. Would that be a convenient location for sightseeing in Venice itself?

Was in Venice last July for 4th visit in past 7 years. Spent 6 nights before moving on and I love Venice even with all the crowds and tourists! We have stayed at Pensione Guerrato near the Rialto Mkt. and it was very nice, Hotel Rialto on the Grand Canal near Rialto vaporetti stop (not worth the extra $), and 2x have rented apartments through Hotel Campiello. Very lovely apartments but you would need more than one apt. to accommodate your group. Last summer I came very close to renting an apt. through www.truly-venice.com. Check out their website. They have lots of apartments and at the time I was corresponding with Daniella. She was extremely prompt in answering my e-mails and answering my questions. May rent through them next time we go to Venice. Have a great trip!

Mukesh, it would be agood idea for you to check and ensure that you have AC, no mattter where you stay, especially in July.

When we rent apts. in Europe we usually use VRBO.com, and Homelidays.com. We have had very good luck with both of these orgs. As always, it is a good idea to rent a unit that has been in the rental pool for a while, and one that has many satisfied customers.
