We're having our children join us in Rome for their first visit. We'd like an apartment near the Spanish Steps in Rome. Hoping to have as near a local experience as possible.
Are you asking for apartment recommendations?
What time of year are you going to be there?
How big an apartment do you need?
Is this your first visit to Italy or to Rome?
What do you mean by a "local" experience?
Same questions for your post about Florence.
Why have chosen The Spanish Steps area? Have you been there before? If you want a local experience, choose another location. We stayed there on our first trip to Rome, never again!
May I suggest you use airbnb or vrbo (my favorite) to research apartments? You'll see pictures, reviews, descriptions and the location on a map. Also, Spanish Steps? How about the area by Piazza Navona or the Pantheon or even Trastevere? Much more interesting.
The area near the Spanish steps is the most expensive and least “local” of the entire city of Rome. Trastevere is more likely to have some Roman residents. Monteverde and Testaccio even better. Prati is also a residential area with “locals” living there. The farther you are from the historical center, the more “local” it gets.
Prati is also a residential area with “locals” living there.
Yes, we enjoyed that area very much. Stayed in a hotel however so can't help you with apartments. I also wouldn't expect to be "having the local experience" as a tourist; residents will not be doing the things you will be doing as a visitor. That said, Prati felt more residential than the Spanish Steps area....which is pretty much Tourist Central. Look as well at some of the areas Roberto suggested.
We stayed in a VRBO apartment near Spanish Steps a few years ago. We loved being there. Local experience for us.
