4 of us are going to venice then florence. Has anyone had any trouble booking through HolidayVelvet or Booking.com? It is our first time in Italy, we don't speak Italian but will try.

Never tried HolidayVelvet but any website (booking.com, venere.com) will work. For apartments you can also try homelidays.com or homeaway.com. The latter is affiliated to vrbo.com in Europe and if you use vrbo.com the info will actually come from homeaway.com. Speaking Italian is not that important. All of the facilities will be managed by people who can speak English. Make sure to choose the location carefully, because some of the apartments may not be located close to the tourist sites. Check the location on the map and see the location with respect to the areas you are going to visit. This is not a big problem in Venice, which is small and everywhere is fine (unless the apartment is in Venezia Mestre), but Florence is bigger and you want to stay within the ancient walls.
