Apartment in Venice and Trieste

I am looking for a small efficiency or apartment in Venice for a week to ten days. Does anyone have any recommendations? We want to go on to Trieste for a week after that. Any recommendations for lodging--apartment, efficiency, etc. Any recommendations about itinerary, etc. would be greatly apprecieated. Our time frame is end of September and October.

Recently rented an apartment in Venice and Florence through vrbo - reliable and well priced.

This is owned by the people that own Pensione Guerrato, recommended in RS Italy. We stayed for one night for about E200 high season. It is a two bedroom, one bathroom with a fully equipped kitchen - perfect for two couples at E100/night each (if that is what you're looking for). It over looks a small square and is literally a one minute walk from Piazza San Marco. If there is a down side to it, you have to 'check in' at the hotel, which is near Rialto Bridge, then continue on the ferry (or carry your luggage through the streets of Venice, which is what we did) the rest of the way to the hotel. If you are staying for a week, I doubt this small inconvenience would bother you.

Thanks so much for the great information--we really don't need a big flat as it is just the two of us but I will start checking the sites you all suggested. Barbara

Hi, Barbara - just a recommendation on itinerary - if you're going to be in Treiste, definitely take the time to rent a car, and head up into Slovenia. A one hour drive will have you at some of the most incredible cave systems in the world, and one of my favorite castles.

Google: Postojna, Predjama, and Skocjan for picts and info.

Very easy, all freeway drive out of Trieste. :) (Train and bus aren't real convenient on that stretch, they never rebuilt the tracks after WWII).

We rented apartments in Venice and Rome (twice) from cross-pollinate.com The prices were good, and the cancellation policy can't be beat. Also, many have only a 3 day minimum stay.
