apartment in Trastevere area of Rome

We are going to rent an apartment in the Trastevere area of Rome. Does anyone know the area well enough to tell me the best area, ,,maybe near a certain piazza, etc. We want to be able to walk outside to restaurants, grocery, so don't want to be too far from action! Thanks

As long as you stay within a few streets of the river, you'll be within easy walking distance of "the action." But watch out for too much action. Staying right on any of the piazzas (S. Maria in Trastevere, or P. Trilussa, for example) means lots of noise well into the evening. Be sure to check out Google Maps Streetview to get a sense of the immediate neighborhood before deciding on an apartment.

We stayed in Trastevere area at Guest House Arco dei Tolomei. It was perfect location. You walk to anywhere you want in Trastevere but can go home at night and it is quiet and very secure. They serve breakfast but we had an early morning flight so didn't get to enjoy that but they did put in the refrigerator the night before fruit and yogurt for us. I highly recommend you download Rick Steves podcast and do his walk of the Trastevere area. You will find that you walk right past this Guest House Arco dei Tolomei as Rick talks about this neighborhood. We have stayed in this apartment in the Piazza S. Egidio in Trastevere www.liveromelikearoman.com several times and really liked both the apartment and the owner who lives nearby. She is an american who has worked and lived in Rome for decades. We really like the Trastevere area but it is very busy and loud until late into the night. This apartment has a quiet bedroom.

FYI, Trastevere is a fairly large neighborhood and only parts of it are loud. As with most of Rome, you can be just a couple of blocks away from the busy hubs and it's completely quiet.
